It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband
and father William Douglas “Doug” Bandy, who left us on Wednesday, April 3,
2024 peacefully at home. Doug was a devout Baptist. He was a devoted
husband, a loving father, proud grandfather, amazing big brother, and wonderful
friend. He loved his fur babies and you would always find one of them on his lap.
Doug was born at the Naval Base Hospital in Newport, Rhode Island on January
18, 1957. He was 67 at the time of his death. Doug was the first child of Bill and
Eileen Bandy of Cleveland, Tennessee. He graduated from Apollo High School,
St. Cloud, Minnesota in 1975. After high school Doug entered the U.S. Air Force
in Duluth, Minnesota for a term of four years and then went on to earn a
bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Middle Tennessee State University,
Murfreesboro.
Doug met the love of his life, Sheri Ewell, and they were married for 18
wonderful years. They were blessed with two children whom they loved and
adored.
Doug had a love for carpentry, and he excelled in his craft. He channeled this
love for carpentry into the Smoky Mountain Humane Society. He and his wife,
Sheri, built and sold many creations including birdhouses and crosses donating
all proceeds to the shelter. He enjoyed keeping up with the Atlanta Braves,
Tennessee Titans and the Tennessee Volunteers in his free time. He loved
fishing, playing golf, going on cruises and going to the beach every chance he
could.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents Bill and Eileen Bandy. He is survived
by his wife, Sheri Bandy; his children, Jason Bandy and his wife Kara, Senae
Smith and her husband Matt; his siblings, Dennise Griffith, Daphne Floyd and
her husband Danny, and Donna Ellis and her husband Tim; grandchildren Rian
Smith, Matthew Smith, Grace Bandy, and Ella Kate Bandy; along with many
other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
A celebration of Doug's life is scheduled for Saturday, April 13, 2024, in
Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, at 12796 Emerald Bay Drive, at the Emerald Bay
Neighborhood Clubhouse. The family invites you to join them between
1:00 pm and 5:00 pm. Doug expressed a desire for his family and friends
to gather, sharing cherished memories of his life.
In remembrance of Doug’s life and his love of caring for animals in need, the
family asks that charitable donations be made to the Smoky Mountain Humane
Society in Doug’s name. www.smhumane.com
