It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved family member, friend, and community member. George Wilt Jr. on February 15, 2026 of Newport, Tn. Known for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit, he touched the lives of all who knew him.
George was born in Rockville, Maryland. He became a fireman at a young age. He was a lifetime member of the Rockville Volunteer Fire Dept. George served as a fire fighter in the Korean War for the United States Air Force. Up on returning home he became a professional firefighter at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington DC where he rose to the rank of Fire Chief. After the passing of his wife Hellen he regained contact with a former sweetheart Erma a few years later. George and Erma were married and relocated to Newport, Tn. in 2000. He loved living in Newport and often spoke about all of the wonderful people that live here.
He was preceded in death by his parents George Sr. (Eva Annabelle) Wilt; wife Hellen Jo Wilt; sister Barbara Williamson; brothers William Wilt, David Wilt, Donald Wilt.
He is survived by his wife Erma Sarah Wilt; daughter Sherry Huff; son Joseph Wilt; grandchildren Casey Dalton, Jessica King, William Buckley, Joseph Wilt II, Ashley Wilt; great- grandchildren Nora Wilt, Aaron Wilt, Jackson Glotfelty, Charlotte Buckley.
Service will be held Thursday February 19, 2026 at Resthaven Memorial Gardens Chapel Mausoleum from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Entombment February 20, 2026 at 11:00 A.M.
He will be deeply missed, but his influence and warmth will live on in the hearts of his loved ones. We invite friends and family to join us in celebrating his life and honoring the remarkable person that he was.
